The Synology NAS for Plex Server comes with 4 drive bays, so you can expand it up to 28 TB, with enough space for your movies, photos, and music. A step up from the DS918+, the Synology 4 has a faster processor, larger RAM, and better usability. Synology is a world leader in NAS for Plex servers, and Synology 4 bay joins the DiskStation lineup that includes models such as DS1019+, DS1511+, and DS1512+. That said, this requires Plex Pass, so I am not sure if I will pay for that yet.Īdditionally, it doesn’t hurt to run the 64-bit version, as it should be more efficient.The Synology 4 bay is an excellent choice for storing large amounts of data on a centralized hard drive. One of the main reasons that I installed the package manually was hardware acceleration. This time, Plex found all of my TV shows (ripped from DVDs I own), and I was in business! Next, I gave read permissions to this user for my ‘Media’ directory. That said, I figured that it would run fine off of the NAS and allow me to keep it separate from my other VMs/services. I used to run Plex off my old openmediavault installation on the r710.
